Mr. Helmut Ehnes is Chairman of the International Social Security Association´s VISION ZERO Steering Committee. Mr. Ehnes offers more than 35 years of professional experience in the field of safety, health, and wellbeing at work. After receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Munich, he went on to become a Labour Inspector at the German Statutory Accident Insurance. Later he covered different leading management positions in prevention.
Since joining the International Social Security Association (ISSA), Mr. Ehnes has played a key role as the Secretary General for ISSA Mining, Technical Secretary for ISSA Trade, and Chairman of several Vision Zero committees. Mr. Ehnes was responsible for the formation and implementation of the VISION ZERO Prevention Strategy and its 7 Golden Rules. Mr. Ehnes has made an impact in the occupational health and safety not only within Germany, but in collaboration with many international efforts in the EU and across the globe.
His international experience includes:
• Author of the ILO-Safe Work Publication “Improvement of national reporting, data collection and analysis of occupational accidents and diseases”.
• Author of the “ISSA Guidelines on Prevention” of the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
• Extensive experience in VISION ZERO Training for industry and organisations.
• Member of the Citizens Jury of the Safety Governance Foundation, Australia.
Furthermore he is the Founder of the German Initiative “Offensive Mittelstand – Gut für Deutschland”, an initiative for sustainability, prevention and responsibility of the German Mittelstand (SMEs and family run businesses).
